Child Foundation Charity Receives Its First Grant
Awarded by First Hand Foundation

Miami Beach, FL–September 24, 2008

Child Foundation Charity, a 501 (c) (3) public benefit, non-profit organization, has been awarded its first grant in the amount of $10,000 by First Hand Foundation. This grant will be used to help with medical treatment for children born with birth defects and enable our mission to be fulfilled on both national and international levels.

With this grant from First Hand Foundation, our organization hopes to increase the number of boys and girls that will receive free medical treatment. This includes travel expenditures, surgeries, hospital expenses, and medication costs. Additionally, funding from First Hand Foundation will be utilized to create a genetic testing and counseling component to Child Foundation Charity children and their families.

According to the March of Dimes, every year there are an estimated eight million children born world-wide with serious congenital malformations. Most of these children have no hope of receiving appropriate medical care due to lack of financial means or as a result of the impoverished state of their underdeveloped country. Not only do these birth defects create physical obstacles in physiological growth, but they have definitive impact on self-esteem and emotional development, as well. These children frequently suffer a life of isolation, ridicule and embarrassment.

Child Foundation Charity is comprised of physicians, corporate executives, and volunteers. The venerated doctors on our board are affiliated with Miami Children’s Hospital and Baptist Hospital, and each of them has volunteered their invaluable services to Child Foundation Charity. Operation costs are donated by our doctors to CFC children and Child Foundation Charity’s goal is to help defray hospital and medical expenses incurred while treating the children that come to us for assistance. The children aided by Child Foundation Charity are 17 years old or younger, and are born with medically treatable physical birth defects. These children have no means with which to pay for medical treatment, relying solely on the compassion and goodwill of others. Children can be from outside or within the US. CFC is unique because 100% of all monies raised will be used for the children; all operational expenses are paid for by an anonymous angel donor.

Baby Miracle Tina Update, May 2008

Miracle Tina has had multiple rounds of surgeries and is now with her parents here in Miami recovering nicely. They are planning on returning to Samoa the end of May to a huge welcome home celebration.

On March 5th Child Foundation's board member, Dr. John Ragheb donated his expertise as a pediatric neurosurgeon and repaired the meningomyelcocoele (protrusion of the spinal membranes & spinal cord through a defect in the vertebral column). After this successful surgery of removing the very painful bulge, Miracle Tina was able to lay on her back for the very first time in her life.

On March 13th Child Foundation's board member, Dr. S. Anthony Wolfe donated his expertise as a pediatric plastic surgeon and repaired her bilateral cleft, ear tags, and amniotic band on her ankle. She now has two nostrils instead of three and her mouth no longer has the deformities attached and soon she will be eating normally. Removing the band on her ankle may allow her use of that foot.

Thanks to your most generous donations, Child Foundation Charity has been able to help give this darling little girl a better quality of life. She will be going home with her family to her beautiful island and to join more family and friends who will bring her much love and joy.

We will be receiving periodic updates so you can watch her develop and grow via our website.

Baby Miracle 2 days Post Op

Here's Baby Miracle's first post op photo showing her new mouth. Please remember there is much healing to come and more swelling will be reduced. But we know everyone is anxious to see her first "after" picture.
Picture is provided by Kristin Taylor of T.H.O.R.N. Ministries of Tampa, the non-profit responsible for bringing Miracle to the US to get her life changing surgeries. T.H.O.R.N. is also hosting this family while they are in the US and needs your support too!
Whoever you donate to, remember our common goal -to provide Miracle with the level of care necessary for these major surgeries.
